Preparing

for an online interview

Getting ready for a Talent Matrix web Interview is no different to a traditional meeting except, as the candidate, you can control the environment as well as you appearance. Spend a few moments thinking about this. Don’t sit infront of a complicated background that distracts from your presentation, dress for the interview as you would for a face to face meeting (newsreader cheats are allowed!).

Set the camera and you computer up so that you are looking at your interviewer’s picture and that the camera is about at eye level. Look directly at the camera.

Check the view finder in WebInterview, you should be presenting in a ‘neutral head and shoulders” shot.
This is illustrated here —->

If you have been told you are using a timed WebInterview (CE version). Then you might practice your presentation. Then you can complete it within the allocated time.

If you are using a business or professional version, your interviewer will probably discuss the format of the interview in advance of the meeting or recording. If you are unsure, we recommend that you clarify the interview method in advance of the meeting. Interviewers will, in many cases, allow you to answer a question a second or third time. If you make a mistake just so restart the question - the editing process will remove any answers that have been repeated.

You don’t have to start the interview immediately. Make sure you are ready, a good interviewer will give you a few moments to settle before suggested you record the interview.

Stay attentive to your interviewer during the meeting, it is particularly important that you continue to focus on your interviewer’s picture. This will ensure your presentation is ‘natural’ and very similar to being in a meeting room.

If you have read through this you should have nothing to worry about, just relax and enjoy your meeting. It sure beats travelling!
